US allies turn against Trump
As Canada, France, and the UK express their intention to recognize a Palestinian state, the US continues to fully support Israel. The Trump administration appears to lack a clear strategy for Gaza’s future governance.

Blinken’s principles and Trump’s rejection
In November 2023, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented principles at the G7 summit: no forced displacement of Palestinians, no Israeli return to Gaza post-war, no blockade, and future governance by Palestinians. However, the Trump administration rejected these principles.

European countries’ recognition
France, the UK, and Canada announced at a conference in New York their readiness to recognize a Palestinian state. The Trump administration called the meeting an “anti-Israel move” and did not participate. US officials said they are focused on peace and freeing hostages.

No plan for Gaza?
In January, Trump proposed turning Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The plan involved relocating Palestinians and violated international law. It was later quietly dropped. Trump said, “Many liked it, some didn’t.”

Europe’s diplomatic pressure
Dissatisfied with US and Israeli policy, European countries and Saudi Arabia are promoting a peace initiative. They consider the famine, child deaths, and aid obstruction a “turning point.”

European and Arab states support returning to a two-state solution and backing the Palestinian Authority without US involvement. The conference will resume in September — without US at the table.
