In Australia, 26-year-old David James, who worked at childcare institutions, has been charged with abusing children and recording the acts on video. According to police investigations, between 2021 and 2024, he worked at six after-school care centres in Sydney and may have committed acts of abuse involving 10 children aged 5 to 6.
According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the suspect worked at nearly 60 childcare institutions in total. He has been in custody since October 2023, but his name was withheld until the victims were identified.
This case has raised serious questions about safety measures in Australia's childcare system. In recent years, several high-profile sexual and physical abuse cases have prompted a re-evaluation of child safety policies.
Police stated that child abuse material linked to the suspect was found on the hidden part of the internet known as the "dark web." Investigators were able to identify David James through this evidence.
So far, charges have been linked only to incidents at six centres, and no evidence of offences at other locations has been found. The police contacted victims’ families directly and assured other parents: “If you have not been contacted, it means the investigation has not found any evidence linking your family to this case.”
