In one of the largest and busiest cities in the USA — in the center of New York — gunfire that broke out last night shocked city residents and tourists. The incident, which occurred at the famous Times Square on the night of August 9, became an unexpected and frightening moment for many.
According to reports, the event took place at around 1:20 a.m. local time at the intersection of West 44th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. Witnesses say they first heard several gunshots, after which people began to scatter in different directions.
As a result of the shots, an 18-year-old girl, a 19-year-old young man, and a 65-year-old man sustained injuries of varying severity. It is reported that a bullet grazed the girl’s neck, while the young man’s right leg and the elderly man’s left leg were wounded.
The police quickly arrived at the scene and detained the suspect. All three victims were transported by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital, and their condition is currently described as stable.
One witness told reporters that a car standing in front of him during the incident was riddled with bullets, with bullet marks on its windows. This further confirms the force with which the incident occurred.
Videos circulating on social media show pedestrians near the “Hard Rock Cafe” running away after hearing gunfire. Another video shows a wounded young man lying on the ground being taken into an ambulance by medics.
This nighttime tragedy at Times Square highlights the need to further strengthen security measures in the city. The New York Police Department is currently conducting an investigation, seeking to determine the suspect’s motive and the reasons that led to the incident.
