20-year-old woman deported from Gaza to Italy dies of starvation

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is becoming increasingly severe. On Wednesday night, 20-year-old Mara Abu Zuhri was evacuated to the city of Pisa under the initiative of the Italian government, but she died just 48 hours after being hospitalized. Local media reported this.

According to information, the young woman arrived in Italy with her mother and died of a heart attack while receiving treatment at the University of Pisa clinic. Doctors noted a sharp loss of body weight and muscle mass, as well as prolonged malnutrition.

The UN has issued serious warnings regarding the situation in Gaza. Expert reports state that the “worst-case scenario” of famine is unfolding in the region. However, the Israeli government rejects these claims, accusing UN agencies of failing to transport humanitarian aid across the borders and deliver it to the population.

Italy has so far accepted more than 180 children and adults from Gaza. Among them are people suffering from severe injuries, congenital diseases, or amputations. This week, another 31 patients and their companions were settled in Rome, Milan, and Pisa.

At the same time, members of the British Parliament have called on the government to urgently implement an evacuation program for children and the wounded from Gaza. They emphasized that any delay could have severe consequences for human lives.

Currently, Israel has announced the beginning of the relocation of Gaza City residents to “safe zones.” However, due to continuous airstrikes, artillery shelling, and heavy bombardments — particularly in the Zaytoun district — the situation is being described as “catastrophic.”

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, at least 36 people were killed in recent strikes. It was also reported that 11 more people died from malnutrition.

The Israeli military stated that it “remains committed to minimizing civilian casualties” and questioned the reliability of figures provided by structures under Hamas control. At the same time, they place responsibility for the humanitarian crisis on Hamas.

Experts emphasize that such tragic events once again highlight how dire and devastating the situation in Gaza truly is.
