In one of the major cities of Afghanistan — Mazar-i-Sharif, work has begun on restoring and rebuilding in an even more magnificent form the memorial complex dedicated to the great thinker Alisher Navoi. According to the agency “Dunyo,” the foundation stone was officially laid for the new construction of the complex, located in the city center and which had fallen into disrepair in recent years.
According to the mayor of the city, Abdurahman Himmat, this decision was made at one of the city’s important squares — the Mukhabirot square. Accordingly, a large plot of land was allocated to properly honor Navoi’s legacy, and a modern complex is planned to be built at this site.
— In the new complex, plaques will be installed in four languages — Uzbek, English, Dari, and Pashto, describing the life and work of Alisher Navoi, as well as his good deeds as a statesman. In addition, a special library will also be organized, — said the city’s mayor.
According to information, the construction of the monument will be financed from the city mayor’s budget and is planned to be fully completed within one month. It was added that specialists from Termez State University will assist in preparing the texts for the monument.
It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that the statue and monument of Navoi in Mazar-i-Sharif were completely demolished. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan requested explanations from the Afghan government. Later, the Taliban stated that this was carried out on the initiative of local authorities, as the previous site was considered “not worthy of Navoi’s great memory,” and it was decided that “an even more majestic complex” should be built for the poet and thinker.
Thus, an important step has been taken in Mazar-i-Sharif towards creating a new memorial complex that will glorify Navoi’s name and convey his spiritual heritage to future generations.
