A major tragedy in Qinghai province has alarmed the entire public. On August 22, around 03:00 local time, in Jainca county, the main cable of a bridge under construction snapped, causing the entire structure to collapse.
As a result of the disaster, 12 workers died, and 4 more are reported missing. This was reported by the state agency Xinhua.
At the time of the accident, there were a total of 16 workers at the construction site. Suddenly, the main girder of a 108-meter-long steel beam broke, and the entire structure dragged the workers into the water.
Rescue operations started immediately. According to official information, by 14:00, 806 rescuers, 91 pieces of equipment, 27 boats, 1 helicopter, and even 5 robots were involved at the site. Injured workers were taken to six nearby hospitals.
China’s Ministry of Emergency Management quickly dispatched a special working group. They are overseeing the rescue efforts, searching for the missing, and investigating the causes of the disaster. Officials promised to mobilize all resources and strengthen regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
According to reports, the bridge was being built as a steel arch structure. The main part of the project was planned to be completed by the end of August. However, this tragedy raised serious questions about the future of the construction and its safety system.
Undoubtedly, the bridge collapse demonstrated the need to strengthen safety standards not only in the construction sector but across the entire country. The lives and destinies of millions of people directly depend on the reliability of such facilities, which was once again clearly revealed.
