Explosion at “Detsky Mir” in Lubyanka: one person killed

In the center of Moscow, at Lubyanka, a powerful explosion occurred in the “Central Children’s Store” (CDM). This was reported by “RIA Novosti” with reference to emergency services data.

According to the information, as a result of the incident one person died, and three more were injured. Two of the victims were hospitalized, while another one received medical assistance directly at the scene. According to the capital’s Department of Health, the exact number of injured is still being clarified. At present, ambulance teams, the Emergency Medical Aid Center, and other services are working at the site.

Gas cylinder exploded

According to the details, a gas cylinder exploded on the third floor of the store. Visitors and staff were immediately evacuated. The Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, noted that the explosion probably occurred due to a technical malfunction.

“Investigative authorities are clarifying the causes of the incident. According to preliminary information, it is related to equipment failure,” the mayor wrote in his Telegram channel.

In connection with this incident, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the city of Moscow initiated a criminal case.

“Detsky Mir” temporarily closed

The press service of the store announced that from August 24 the activity has been temporarily suspended. According to them, the explosion occurred in one of the tenants’ premises.

The store’s management also emphasized that the family of the deceased person will be provided with all necessary assistance.
