The Government of Turkmenistan plans to completely ban cigarette smoking throughout the country by the end of 2025. According to information announced by official agencies, the state is taking strict measures to protect public health and prevent diseases.
According to the World Health Organization, the population of Turkmenistan is approximately 7 million, and only 7% of them are considered smokers. This figure is among the lowest in Central Asian countries. For several years now, a strict anti-tobacco policy has been implemented in the country, and it is yielding results.
Especially in recent years, there has been a sharp decrease in the number of smokers. This process has been influenced by active public awareness campaigns, restrictions on the sale of tobacco products, and special educational programs in schools and workplaces. Anti-smoking legal mechanisms are enforced not only on an individual level, but also strictly monitored in public places, workplaces, institutions, and even transport.
At the same time, medical professionals in Turkmenistan also support this initiative. According to them, a decrease in the number of smokers not only reduces respiratory illnesses but also plays an important role in preventing heart attacks, strokes, and cancer.
