According to Strek, synthetic opioids - nitathenes, which are 500 times stronger than heroin, are becoming increasingly prevalent in the market. "A dose the size of a pencil tip can take a person's life," he warned in a comment to bild.de.
Looking at the statistics, Germany recorded the second-highest drug-related death rate in 2023, equivalent to an average of 6 deaths per day. The fact that the mortality rate among young people under the age of 30 has increased by 14 percent is also causing great concern.
Experts emphasize that substances called "cracks" can cause severe addiction even after single consumption. Moreover, narcotics are increasingly being sold online and delivered directly to home addresses.
According to the commissioner, Germany is witnessing a sharp increase not only in synthetic opioids but also in creque and cocaine consumption. "The market is changing very quickly. If effective measures are not taken now, the situation will become even more dangerous," Strek warned.
