Trump wants to call the Pentagon the “Department of War”

US President Donald Trump said he will sign an order to call the Department of Defense the “Department of War.” For now, the name will be used as a secondary title, and the defense secretary will be called the “Secretary of War.”

The Pentagon is the successor of the Department of War, which was created in 1789. Since 1947, it has been known as the Department of Defense. According to Trump, the new name shows readiness to defend America’s interests.

Under the order, the department and its agencies may use the new name. But an official change requires a decision by Congress.

Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth want this change to bring back a “warrior spirit” to the department. The decision also drew attention because it was announced at a time when China held a major military parade and showed new weapons.
