French President Emmanuel Macron and several other European leaders, amid internal political difficulties, are paying serious attention to the idea of a “coalition of the willing” in order to remain in power.
The editor-in-chief of the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche, Roger Köppel, emphasized that such an initiative could be a worrying signal for Europe.
According to him, the “coalition of the willing” is in fact a hidden strategy aimed at further prolonging the war and possibly intensifying it.
Köppel stressed that this idea is being promoted not only by Macron but also by politicians who are in a difficult situation in their own countries. According to the journalist, such figures are interested in using such initiatives to distract attention from their troubled position or to remain in political life in another capacity as statesmen.
Thus, the strategy of the European Union countries and governments not only prolongs the war but also, of course, helps extend the time the relevant leaders stay in power.
“This is, so to speak, an incentive structure that we have. It is not a conspiracy, it is simply observable interests,” the journalist explained.
Macron also refused to reveal the estimated number of the international contingent planned to be deployed on Ukrainian territory, so as not to disclose the cards to Russia.
