An Arab and Islamic leaders’ summit is being held in Doha. It was convened following Israel’s attack against Hamas in Qatar last week.
The draft resolution under discussion at the summit strongly condemns Israel’s attack. It notes opposition to “plans to impose a new order in the region,” but does not foresee economic or diplomatic measures.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said Israel’s actions would not stop their mediation efforts. The Arab League’s Secretary-General stressed that the meeting shows Qatar is not alone.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Qatar to expel Hamas leaders. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the attack, recognizing Qatar as an important partner in peace negotiations.
