Reports about Trump’s hopes in Putin fading

US President Donald Trump is no longer confident that he can force Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. This is reported by a number of Western media outlets.

In recent months, Trump had been making big promises about stopping the conflict in Ukraine. However, according to the latest reports, he has begun to realize that it will not be easy to make Putin agree to compromise through negotiations.

According to Axios, the head of the White House admitted to his advisers that he had misjudged Putin’s intentions regarding peace talks.

Trump states that if the war in Ukraine is not stopped, serious measures will be taken against Russia.

Just the other day, on his official page on the Truth Social network, he published a post saying that the US is ready to impose crushing sanctions against Russia, but for this NATO countries must also take such measures and stop buying Russian oil.

“This is not Trump’s war (if I had been president, this war would not have started!), but Biden’s and Zelensky’s. I am only trying to stop it and save the lives of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians. (Just last week, 7118 people died. Nonsense!) If NATO acts as I said, the war will end very quickly and people’s lives will be saved. Otherwise, you will have wasted my time, as well as the time, energy, and money of the US,” Trump wrote.

On September 14, during a meeting with journalists, Trump also stressed that if Europe acts like the US, it will strengthen sanctions against Russia.

“Europe is buying oil from Russia. I don’t want them to buy oil. Their sanctions are also not so tough. I am going to impose sanctions, but they must also strengthen their sanctions in line with my actions,” said the US leader.

During his presidential campaign, Trump promised to end the Russia–Ukraine war within 24 hours, and since coming to the White House he has spoken with Putin by phone several times.

Not satisfied with this, the Republican politician met with Putin in the state of Alaska on August 15 of this year. The nearly three-hour negotiations between the two state leaders ended without practical results. Not even a temporary agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine was reached.

President Trump positively evaluated the talks with his Russian counterpart. He even boasted in an interview with Fox News that he would give the meeting with Putin 10 points on a 10-point scale. However, most analysts believe that the Alaska summit did not produce practical results but gave Putin big points. In general, the Alaska summit was interpreted as a defeat for the White House and a victory for the Kremlin.

Trump’s warnings such as “Putin has gone mad!”, “I am disappointed in Putin” are said not to be affecting the Russian leader.
