The European Union confiscated a record number of Chinese containers.

An event occurred, which was recorded as the largest operation in the history of the European Union. According to the European State Prosecutor's Office, 2,435 cargo containers arriving from China were seized at the Greek port of Piraeus. This operation is considered a serious step in the fight against illegal trade and smuggling.

According to Politico, this operation is the largest confiscation ever carried out within the European Union. The containers mainly contained electric bicycles, textiles, footwear, and consumer goods. They were allowed into circulation without official permission and escaped customs control.

According to the European State Prosecutor's Office, six individuals have been officially charged for organizing the illegal circulation of these goods. The results of the investigation showed that if these goods were introduced into the European market without official registration, the budgets of the Union countries could lose about $800 million from customs duties and value-added tax.

Experts emphasize that the import of illegal goods into Europe not only causes economic damage but also disrupts the balance of competition in the domestic market. Cheap but uncertified products can negatively impact local manufacturers. Also, such products often do not meet safety requirements and increase the likelihood of being dangerous to consumers.
