Large-scale raid: food violations exposed

In Germany, a large-scale raid was carried out against the use of illegal labor in the catering sector. Federal customs investigators conducted special inspections in various cities of the country on September 19.

Jens Åland, a spokesperson for the Cologne Customs Administration, told the dpa agency that the operation is being conducted throughout Germany and its main goal is to expose cases of illegal employment, identify violations of minimum wage rules, and put an end to illegal labor.

According to the agency, several thousand customs officers participated in the inspections. Restaurants and hotels were the main focus. The first raids were conducted in the city of Cologne, and as a result, violations were recorded in three institutions.

According to Jens Åland, such cases are observed almost daily. "Many enterprises illegally hire their employees and pay them less than the established minimum wage. We often receive such messages," he said.

The raids included not only new inspections, but also the study of situations at previously reported enterprises. On the same day, it was reported that one person subject to deportation was also identified and transferred to the immigration service.

The final results of the nationwide raid have not yet been announced. However, specialists expect that a number of violations will be revealed during the inspections and strict measures will be taken against cases of illegal labor.
