22-year-old woman had two pens removed from her stomach

In Turkey’s Agri province, an unusual medical operation performed by doctors attracted wide public attention. In a 22-year-old woman diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), after she applied to the hospital, two pens were removed from her stomach.

One and a half hour complex operation

According to information, after the patient reported that she had swallowed a pen, the medical team quickly prepared for surgery. The surgical procedure performed through endoscopy lasted about one and a half hours. During it, not only two pens but also one pencil and another small object were successfully removed.

Doctor’s surprising statement

According to doctor Adem Aslan, who performed the operation, they had previously encountered various small objects, but it was the first time they came across such long and thin items.

“Our patient, due to her OCD illness, had the habit of swallowing various objects. The procedure was successful, she was kept under observation for one day, and then discharged home,” said the doctor.

Consequence of psychological problem

Experts emphasize that patients with OCD may exhibit compulsive actions. In some cases, such conditions pose a serious threat to health. This shows the necessity of providing the patient not only with medical but also psychological assistance.
