A solemn dinner in London, organized by the Republican Overseas organization in connection with the visit of Donald Trump, was unexpectedly disrupted. Environmental activists - members of the Fossil Free London movement ("Iskopayem, London without fuel") entered the event and held a protest.
Activists held placards with the slogan "Oil money leads to people's deaths." They shouted loudly: "Turning is destruction! How many lives are needed to die?" Trump's promises about expanding oil production were sharply criticized.
Fossil Free London stated in a statement:
"Trump's policies could claim the lives of 4 billion people by 2050. This occurs due to disasters that follow climate disasters. He also supports the genocide in Gaza. This means fires, floods, severe climate change, and mass displacement.
We shouldn't be here to support this president. It will only follow the path of fascism and climatic destruction. One thing is certain: this man is insane."
During the incident, security guards forcibly removed the activists from the hall. However, the campaign caused great controversy and discussion not only among the participants of the ceremony, but also among the general public and the media.
According to experts, this event once again demonstrated the existence of strong opposition to Trump's climate policy. Also, environmental activist movements can be widely supported by the public in Western Europe.
