In New Zealand, Hakyung Li has been found guilty of killing her two children and hiding their bodies in suitcases. The case shocked the country and drew wide public attention.
The 44-year-old Li was convicted of murder at Auckland High Court. She had previously pleaded not guilty and claimed she was mentally unwell at the time, but prosecutors said her actions were planned.
The children’s bodies were found in an unused storage unit. Pathologists determined they died from the effects of the drug Nortriptyline by unspecified means.
During the trial, it was revealed that Li had hidden the children’s bodies, changed her name, and returned to South Korea. She faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
