Belgium has joined the group of countries that recognized Palestine as a state.
This was announced by Prime Minister Bart De Wever during the UN General Assembly session. According to him, Belgium has always supported the two-state solution and today joined the group of countries that signed the New York Declaration.
"Only such an approach will allow the peoples of Israel and Palestine to live together in peace and security," De Wever said.
He also pointed to the recent statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who rejected the existence of a Palestinian state. According to De Wever, these words provide an even stronger reason to support the Palestinians.
"Therefore, Belgium has joined the group of states that recognized Palestine and is sending a strong political signal to the whole world," he added.
