Which disease is the leading cause of death worldwide?

Diseases related to the cardiovascular system once again occupy the first place as the most fatal disease among the planet's population. This is stated in a new international report, prepared on the basis of data from 204 countries from 1990 to 2023.

According to the report, cardiovascular diseases are the cause of every third death. If in 1990 13.1 million people died from these diseases, then by 2023 this figure reached 19.2 million. Another concern is that in many regions, the mortality rate of men turned out to be higher than that of women.

Cardiovascular diseases were also noted as a key factor in the DALY indicator - the indicator of years of healthy life lost due to premature death or disability. This further reveals the scale of the problem.

As noted by responsible experts, up to 80 percent of risk factors can be eliminated in advance. These include obesity, high blood pressure, high sugar levels, and elevated cholesterol levels.

Therefore, monitoring dietary habits, regular physical exercise, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and regular medical check-ups are crucial for preventing cardiovascular diseases.
