Two 17-year-old teenagers who spied in the interests of Russia in the Netherlands have been arrested. This was reported by De Telegraaf on Friday, September 26th. According to the information, on August 16, when the teenagers were passing near the buildings of Europol, the European Justice System, and the Canadian Embassy in The Hague, they were found to have "Wi-Fi sniffer" - a special device designed to monitor internet networks, steal passwords, and obtain various information.
During the investigation, it became known that an anonymous curator communicated with the young men through the Telegram messenger. The charges against them were based on information provided by the Dutch Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD).
This is noted for the first time in the country's history as a case related to the recruitment of minors by a foreign state. On Thursday, September 25, the suspects were brought before the investigating judge. According to the court decision, one of them was detained for an additional 14 days. The second was placed under house arrest and obligated to wear an electronic bracelet.
According to De Telegraaf, one of the suspects was a high school student who played hockey, was interested in gaming, and even slept with a soft toy. For his parents, this event turned out to be completely unexpected. It was reported that the young man did not attend parties and evenings, but only worked in a supermarket.
During the arrest operation, at least eight law enforcement officers entered the house with a search warrant and carried out the arrest process. This event caused a great shock not only for the parents, but also for the general public.
