In Madagascar, as a result of mass protests that began due to electricity and water shortages, at least 22 people have died and more than 100 have been injured. This was reported by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.
According to the organization’s statement, among the dead are protesters and those killed by security forces, as well as people who died during the unrest and looting.
It is recalled that the protests began on September 25 over problems with electricity and water supply and escalated into unrest.
At the mixed national conference organized to calm the situation, Prime Minister Christian Ntsay stated that among peaceful protesters on the campus of the University of Madagascar there were also armed individuals.
