According to CNN, YouTube agreed to close the lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump with a large sum of money. Trump was blocked on a number of social networks, including the YouTube platform, following the events of January 6, 2021.
According to reports, the company will allocate $22 million to the Trump-backed non-governmental organization Trust for the National Mall. This organization will support the restoration of the National Mall Square in Washington and the construction of a special hall on the White House grounds. YouTube will also pay another $2.5 million to other contenders, including the American Conservative Union.
As a reminder, YouTube was the last of three major social networks that Trump sued. Previously, Meta Corporation settled the dispute by paying $25 million in January, while Twitter (now X) reached a $10 million deal in February.
Although social media has blocked Trump's accounts, stating that some of his posts may incite violence, technology companies are now treating him and his supporters more favorably.
In particular, after Elon Musk bought Twitter, Trump restored his account. Later, Meta and YouTube did the same. Recently, YouTube announced that it would reactivate some accounts blocked for spreading misinformation, expressing its respect for conservative opinions.
