Austin (Texas) police have identified a suspect in a notorious 1991 crime that drew widespread public attention. Deadline reported this news.
The case of the “Yogurt Shop Murders,” which had remained unsolved for 34 years, was cracked using modern DNA analysis. On September 26, investigators announced that the suspect was Robert Eugene Brashers.
Brashers had previously been linked to several murders in the 1990s and the 1997 rape of a 14-year-old girl. In 1999, after another suspected crime, he took his own life during a confrontation with police.
In an official statement, investigators emphasized that throughout the years they remained dedicated to the case and to the families of the victims.
The murder itself occurred on December 6, 1991. Four girls aged 13 to 17 were finishing their shift at a frozen yogurt shop when an unknown assailant attacked. They were bound, assaulted, and brutally killed. The shop was then deliberately set on fire.
This crime was later depicted in the 2025 mini-series “The Yogurt Shop Murders” and in writer Corey Mitchell’s book “Murdered Innocents.”
