Unrest and Deaths in Ladakh
In northern India’s Ladakh region, protests over demands for autonomy have led to unrest. At least four people were killed and more than 80 injured in clashes.

The demonstrations were led by well-known activist Sonam. He was arrested, with authorities accusing him of inciting the crowd. Sonam denies the allegations.

In 2019, the Indian government placed Ladakh under direct central rule. Since then, public demands for statehood and special rights have been growing.

Ladakh holds strategic importance as it borders both China and Pakistan. Experts stress that maintaining stability in the region is crucial.
