Suspect arrested for massive fire in Los Angeles

According to the US Department of Justice, 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht, a resident of Florida, has been arrested on suspicion of deliberately causing a large fire in Los Angeles in January. Detention was imposed on October 8.

According to the investigation version, Rinderknecht, who worked as a Uber driver, set fire to trees on January 1 in the Pacific-Palisides tourist corridor north of the city. Initially, the fire area was small, but due to strong winds, the fire spread quickly.

As a result, the fire engulfed an area of approximately 93 square kilometers. The consequences are severe: the Pacific coastline, the vicinity of Malibu, and the mountains of Santa Monica were damaged, 12 people died, and more than 6,800 structures were destroyed.

Additional investigations are currently underway. The charges against Rinderknecht will be considered in court, and he will remain innocent until proven guilty. Rescue services urge residents to be vigilant during the high-risk fire season in the region.
