A horrific crime-related incident occurred in Istanbul - a local court sentenced the man who brutally murdered the woman to life imprisonment.
According to reports, the incident occurred on April 18 in the Qaynarja neighborhood of the Pendik district. Another quarrel between the couple, who had lived together for several years, ended in a bloody outcome. During the argument, a man named R.A. raped V.U. and took him to the basement, where he stabbed him several times.
The neighbors, hearing about his active actions, rushed to help. However, they did not have time to stop the criminal - the suspect fled the scene. Police officers, acting swiftly, quickly located and apprehended R.A.
The case was heard in Istanbul's 17th Serious Criminal Court. The prosecutor demanded a verdict against the accused under the article "intentional homicide" of the Turkish Criminal Code. After a thorough examination of the materials, the jury sentenced R.A. to life imprisonment.
Also, during the investigation, it became known that the man also stole the victim's bag. However, the court assessed this as "theft," not "robbery," and imposed an additional 6 years of imprisonment under this article.
The accused expressed remorse in court and requested a lenient sentence. However, the jury did not take these words into account - the verdict was not changed due to the cruelty and public danger of the committed crime.
Residents of the mahalla and relatives of the victim supported the court's decision. They emphasized the need to take strict measures for such serious crimes, stating that "justice has prevailed."
This phenomenon once again shows the need to strengthen attention to the issue of violence against women in society. It is noted that such cases have increased in Turkey in recent years, and the government and public organizations are taking new measures to ensure the safety of women.
