Russian President Vladimir Putin once again drew the world's attention to new achievements in the military sphere. Following reports of the Burevestnik intercontinental cruise missile, the head of state announced the successful test of another strategic weapon - the Poseidon nuclear torpedo.
Putin said the experience was mentioned in a conversation during his visit to the Mandrik Central Military Clinical Hospital. As the President noted, this test could usher in a new stage in Russia's military potential.
"Yesterday we tested another promising weapon - the Poseidon submarine unmanned vehicle. This device is powered by nuclear energy. "For the first time, we managed not only to start the starting engine from a submarine, but also to use a nuclear power plant on a torpedo," Putin said.
According to him, "Poseidon" is unparalleled in the world in terms of speed and depth of movement. The President called this device a "great success" and noted that its power exceeds the "Sarmat" intercontinental missile.
"There is currently no way to stop this weapon," he added.
The Poseidon submarine drone (or nuclear torpedo) was first introduced to the public by Putin in 2018. It is designed to operate at great depths, intercontinental distances, and destroy submarines and strategic structures in enemy territory.
The first torpedo boat "Poseidon" - the submarine "Belgorod" - was launched in 2019 at the "Sevmash" plant. Subsequently, it successfully passed state tests in the Barents Sea and was handed over to the Russian Navy on July 8, 2022.
According to experts, the Poseidon project plays an important role in Russia's nuclear strategy. This weapon can not only maintain military superiority but also change the geopolitical balance in the world.
Officials have not yet provided complete information about the device's technical capabilities. However, Putin's statement shows that Russia's military potential is expanding further.
