New participants in the robbery of the Louvre have been arrested

French police have arrested five more individuals suspected of stealing $102 million worth of treasure from the Apollo Gallery in the Louvre, Reuters reports.

Paris prosecutor Lor Becquaux told RTL radio station today that the last suspects were arrested during a series of raids conducted in Paris and its northern suburbs on Wednesday evening. One of them was identified by DNA traces left at the crime scene, but it is unknown whether all suspects are involved in the crime. The investigation intensified after the detected phones and other items from the suspects allowed investigators to examine their encrypted messages.

Becquo also added that a police unit specializing in combating the illicit trafficking of cultural valuables is investigating the black market in search of stolen artifacts. According to him, valuables can be used for money laundering or as small change in organized crime circles.

On the morning of October 19, four hijackers in hoods escaped with prey during the museum's operation, exposing gaps in the museum's security system to be visited. This gross theft shook the whole world.
