The US State Department announced new technical changes to the 2027 Diversity Visa (DV-2027) lottery. This was reported on the agency's official website.
According to the information, the Green Card program will not be canceled, but only organizational changes will be made to the deadlines for submitting applications and announcing the results. That is, the program's mechanism and participation rules will remain the same.
It is noted that the winners of DV-2027 will have the opportunity to apply for an immigration visa from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. The updated date and the exact order of the process will be announced later.
At the same time, the State Department also announced the introduction of a fee of 1 US dollar for registration for the lottery from September 16, 2024. This measure was introduced as part of the revision of the payment system for consular services.
The Diversity Visa (DV) program provides approximately 50,000 immigration visas annually to citizens of countries with low levels of immigration to the United States. The main goal of the program is to attract more representatives of different nationalities to America and ensure demographic balance.
The results of the lottery can be checked in the traditional way through the Entry Status Check (ESC) system. Through this system, the participant determines whether they are the winner based on their number and information.
In previous years, applications for the Green Card program opened annually at the beginning of October and ended at the beginning of November. For example, the acceptance of applications for the DV-2026 program began on October 2, 2024. However, in 2025, this tradition was broken, and the State Department did not comment on the temporary break.
According to experts, the new organizational changes are expected to make the program more precise, transparent, and stable. At the same time, it was noted that the introduction of a fee during the registration process will serve to reduce fraud cases.
