Syrian leader Ahmad al-Shar'a arrived on an official visit to the US capital, Washington, D.C., the state news agency SANA reported. This visit entered history as the first official visit of the country's leader to America since Syria gained independence in 1946.
According to reports, Ahmad al-Shar'a is scheduled to hold talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House on November 10th. During the meeting, it is expected that issues of raising political and economic relations between the two countries to a new level, expanding cooperation in the field of security, as well as combating terrorist groups in the region will be discussed.
Sources note that before the visit, a noticeable warmth began to be observed in relations between Washington and Damascus. On November 7, the US administration lifted the personal sanctions imposed on Ahmad al-Shar'a. Following this, the UN Security Council also decided to lift international restrictions on the Syrian president.
According to analysts, this event could be a step towards a new stage in the restoration of diplomatic relations between Syria and the US. Some international experts consider this "the first symbolic step towards restoring mutual trust."
It is expected that through the negotiations in Washington, the two countries will open a new page not only in improving political relations, but also in the areas of economic cooperation and humanitarian aid. Political observers called this visit "the beginning of a new direction in Syrian foreign policy."
