
A 6.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the northeastern part of Japan on November 9, Kyodo News reported. The seismic event occurred at a depth of 16 km from the Sanriku coast at 17:03 local time.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture at a depth of up to 1 meter. In the Iwate and Miyagi regions, the earthquake was felt at a magnitude of 4, with no reports of significant damage or injuries.
In the cities of Kuji and Ofunato, tsunami waves were observed at a height of 20 cm, and in Miyako and Kamayishi at a height of 10 cm. The operation of the Tōhoku high-speed trains was temporarily suspended, and later resumed.
Experts urged the population to exercise caution and observe seismic safety regulations.
