Athlete arrested in Iran for performing without a headscarf

Famous Iranian female sports coach Khaniya Shariati Rudposhti has been arrested for performing acrobatic tricks in public without a headscarf, according to Iran International.

According to sources, the incident occurred after a street exit, which was deemed to violate the rules of public dress. The athlete was considered to have "violated Islamic norms" for performing gymnastic movements in front of the local population without a head covering.

According to information released by the Norwegian-based human rights organization Hengau, Shariati was arrested by security services on the evening of November 9. Conversations with his family are allowed only by short phone, but the athlete's exact location is still unknown.

According to reports, Khaniya Sharia's social media pages, including an Instagram account with nearly 160,000 subscribers, are currently under security control.

In recent days, high-ranking officials of the Iranian government have emphasized the need to take decisive measures against disregarding dress codes in public places. Iranian Attorney General Mohammad Muwahhidi Azad emphasized that adhering to the requirements of "Islamic dress" is not only a legal requirement but also a religious obligation.

According to the law, women are required to cover their heads in public places in the country, but some activists consider this requirement an encroachment on personal freedom.
