In Ethiopia’s region bordering South Sudan, the situation has worsened — the country has confirmed its first case of the Marburg virus. According to officials, nine people, including several healthcare workers, have been infected with this dangerous disease.
Following this case, the government strengthened emergency sanitary measures. Additional controls were introduced at border posts, and quarantine regulations became even stricter. Special testing systems were launched, speeding up the early detection process.
The World Health Organization also responded quickly to the situation. WHO sent Ethiopia 300,000 dollars’ worth of assistance and essential medical supplies. Experts note that the virus resembles previous outbreaks observed in the DRC, Tanzania and Uganda.
Meanwhile, scientists continue working on developing an effective vaccine against Marburg. Local residents are advised to strictly follow precautionary measures to protect themselves from the infection.
