The Finnish leader openly acknowledged Russia's major diplomatic error

Finnish President Alexander Stubb called Russia's actions regarding the planned summit with the US in Hungary a "big strategic mistake." In an interview with the Associated Press, he spoke in detail about the political landscape and diplomatic problems behind this event.

The President noted that the main factor that dramatically changed the situation was a telephone conversation between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to Stubb, after this conversation, Washington officials realized that "Moscow has no intention of making any concessions" and that President Donald Trump could not reach an agreement under these circumstances.

The Finnish leader assessed this situation as a missed great opportunity for Russia:

"The Russians had the opportunity to ease the situation, but they couldn't take advantage of this opportunity. "This is their next strategic mistake," Stubb said.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin is also discussing this issue. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, commenting on the spread speculation, denied reports of Lavrov's "missing" or the uproar surrounding the summit. According to him, Moscow and Washington continue to adhere to the positions agreed upon at the August meeting in Ankara.

At the same time, the process of new negotiations "has been suspended or postponed indefinitely." This, according to political analysts, indicates that relations between the two countries may remain complicated for several weeks or even months.

It is not yet clear in what direction the processes will develop, but the sharp statements of the Finnish leader will undoubtedly cause new disputes in the diplomatic space.
