US and Ukraine hold talks on a new peace plan

In Geneva, US and Ukrainian officials are holding a meeting on a peace plan. The Ukrainian delegation is led by Andriy Yermak, and the US by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Advisors from Germany, France, and the UK are also participating.

As a result of the talks, a new “updated framework document” has been prepared. Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy said that almost nothing remains from the original draft. The automatic veto on NATO membership has been removed, troop limits lifted, and war crimes amnesty cancelled.

On territorial issues, Ukraine will not give land to Russia for free and will recover occupied areas only through diplomatic means. Security guarantees are also highlighted. As the UK Prime Minister said, the US is obliged to ensure Ukraine’s security.

The talks are not yet finished, but the new proposal has moved away from pro-Russia conditions and could be accepted by Ukraine. Experts say Donald Trump’s demand for peace gave momentum to the talks, but Russia is not yet ready to stop the war.
