Disney will invest $1 billion in OpenAI

A new partnership has been formed between OpenAI and Walt Disney. OpenAI has signed a three-year license agreement with Walt Disney, allowing ChatGPT Images and Sora users to create images and videos from over 200 characters from the world of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. Disney will also invest $1 billion in OpenAI. This information was published on the official OpenAI website.

According to the agreement, Walt Disney will be the first major content licensing partner of Sora, a video creation platform. Videos created by users on the OpenAI platform are provided for viewing through the Disney+ service.

Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said: "Technological innovation is constantly changing the entertainment industry, opening up new opportunities to create and disseminate great stories. Through cooperation with OpenAI, we respect and protect the works of creators, responsibly and thoughtfully expanding these opportunities with the help of generative artificial intelligence."

It is planned that the first videos will appear at the beginning of 2026 or near this time. These videos will feature Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Simba, Mufasa, Lilo and Stich, Dedpool, Groot, Iron Man, and other famous characters. However, this agreement will not affect the use of the studio actors' appearance and voices.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, in turn, said: "Disney is the world standard for storytelling, and we are pleased that Sora and ChatGPT Images are collaborating to expand the possibilities of creating and receiving great content."
