The Southern Command of the US Armed Forces reported that three ships allegedly transporting drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean were attacked, resulting in the deaths of eight people. It is noted that the attacks took place in international waters.
According to official data, three people died on the first ship, two on the second, and three more on the third. This operation was carried out within the framework of US President Donald Trump's decree aimed at strengthening the "on-site combat" policy against drug cartels in Latin America.
Earlier, based on this strategy, the US sent a naval group, including submarines and warships, to the shores of Venezuela at the end of August. At that time, Defense Secretary Pete Heggett stated that the US military was ready to implement scenarios related to the replacement of existing power in Venezuela.
At the same time, such operations under the pretext of restricting drug trafficking in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean are causing serious controversy in the international arena. In particular, direct strikes on ships and the killing of people on board are interpreted as "judicial executions," and this issue is the subject of much criticism.
