Russia ready to take more Ukrainian land by force, says Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 17 that Russia could take more land in Ukraine by force. He urged Kyiv and European politicians to discuss US peace proposals and called them “young pigs.”

The United States held talks with Russia and separately with Kyiv and European leaders, but no agreement was reached. Kyiv and its European allies are concerned about territorial concessions and want strong security guarantees.

Putin said Russia is active on all fronts and will achieve its goals through diplomacy or force. Russia currently controls about 19% of Ukraine, including Crimea, eastern Donbas, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.

Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said a task for 2026 is to increase the pace of the offensive. He also noted that Russia spent 5.1% of GDP on the war in 2025.
