Russia is reportedly bypassing drone defenses through Belarus

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a statement about the new dangerous tactics of the Russian troops at a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on Friday evening. According to him, Moscow's troops are trying to use the territory of Belarus to bypass defensive positions in Ukraine designed to intercept drones.

According to the president, the meeting was entirely devoted to the drone threat, air defense lines and Ukraine's response measures. Zelenskyy stressed on his Telegram channel that this situation poses a serious threat not only to Ukraine, but also to Belarus.

"We have been watching the actions related to the 'Oreshnik', and now we are seeing new schemes implemented through drones. Unfortunately, Belarus is sacrificing its sovereignty for the sake of Russia's aggressive goals," the head of state wrote.

Zelensky noted that the Russian military is carefully studying the Ukrainian air defense lines, including the location of drone interceptor systems, and is trying to bypass them. According to Ukrainian intelligence, some of the equipment used in the strikes is being installed in settlements near the border of Belarus, even on residential buildings.

According to the president, antennas and communication equipment are installed on the roofs of ordinary five-story houses, which serve to direct drones to targets in the western regions of Ukraine. Zelensky openly stated that this is a complete denial of the life of civilians.

“This is a very serious issue. Minsk must stop such dangerous games. We will inform our partners and prepare joint response measures,” the Ukrainian leader said. This issue is expected to be discussed again at the next meeting of the headquarters.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said that the country's energy infrastructure had been seriously damaged by the Russian attacks on the night of December 23. The most severe damage was recorded in the western regions, with a large part of the population in the Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytsky regions left without electricity.

On the evening of December 25, Russian drones targeted a key infrastructure facility in the Volyn region. At the Kovel railway station, locomotives and freight cars were damaged, and the blast wave shattered windows in the depot buildings.

According to Sergei Beskrestnov, an expert on radio-electronic warfare and communication systems, Russia may be deliberately targeting the Kiev-Kovel railway route, trying to disrupt the logistics chain between Ukraine and Poland. He said that although the drones are launched by Russia, they are controlled from Belarus.

Currently, Belarusian troops are not directly participating in Russia's war against Ukraine. However, due to the threat of a possible invasion, a certain part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is being held on the border with Belarus. This puts additional pressure on the country's defense resources.
