The largest New Year celebration in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records took place in Rio de Janeiro. This was reported by UPI.

About 2.5 million people gathered at Kopakabana Beach to celebrate the beginning of 2026. In addition to the number of people, Guinness World Records representatives took into account the cultural significance of the event and the quality of entertainment.

Three main scenes were set up on the Rio de Janeiro beach, one of which was dedicated to. The organizers also launched a 12-minute fireworks display from 19 floating platforms and prepared a show featuring 1,200 drones.

City officials stated that the figure of 2.5 million people applies only to Copacabana and excludes people from other venues throughout Rio. According to authorities, a total of about five million people participated in the New Year's events.
