NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that European countries are fully prepared to defend the United States. He emphasized that if the US is attacked, all member states of the alliance will remain committed to their alliance.
Mark Rutte made these remarks during a meeting with US President Donald Trump during the World Economic Forum in Davos. He responded to Trump's doubts about whether allies would come to the rescue if the US were attacked.
"You expressed doubts about whether NATO countries will help the United States. I can say with certainty - they will come to the rescue. The example of Afghanistan is clear evidence of this. At that time, for every two American soldiers killed, there was one soldier from another NATO country," the alliance's Secretary General said.
Rutte also emphasized that NATO has grown stronger than ever under Donald Trump's presidency, and cooperation and military capabilities within the alliance have grown even further.
