Umut Jan Turan, a former member of the Turkish national badminton team, died in a road accident in Samsun, Turkey. A citizen of Azerbaijan has been detained in connection with the incident.
According to the Demirören news agency, Umut Jan Turan was driving the motorcycle that collided with a parked truck. Despite being taken to the hospital with severe injuries, it was not possible to save his life.
It has been reported that the deceased previously played for the Turkey national badminton team. Recently, he has been working as a courier.
The report notes that the driver of the truck, a citizen of Azerbaijan, Nadir S., who was hit by a motorcycle in connection with the incident, was detained by law enforcement agencies. An investigation into the incident is underway.
