Pentagon admits: fighting Shahed drones is difficult

The US Department of Defense is facing serious challenges in countering Iranian-made Shahed-type kamikaze drones. According to The Atlantic, Pentagon leadership admitted in a closed-door meeting that there are still no cheap and effective means to neutralize these drones. The main problem is that expensive air defense missiles have to be used to shoot down cheap, mass-produced drones.

Experts believe this leads to rapid resource depletion and overloading of defense systems. The strategy of a "costly response" to a "cheap attack" is not economically viable in the long run. Currently, countries like the US and Israel are facing major difficulties due to this imbalance. As the number of drones increases, stopping them with expensive systems every time quickly drains military reserves.

To address the situation, the US is forced to revise its military doctrine. The focus is now shifting to developing specialized anti-drone drones, electronic warfare assets, and mobile anti-aircraft groups. If cheap and mass-produced countermeasures are not developed in the near future, drones like the Shahed will continue to exhaust air defense systems and significantly deplete military budgets.
