US bases suffered heavy damage from Iran

Iranian strikes on US military bases in the Middle East caused about $800 million in damage during the first 14 days of fighting, according to a BBC analysis. Most of the losses were linked to Iran’s retaliatory attacks in the first week of the conflict.

The report said some of the most costly damage was recorded at a US air base in Jordan. The targets reportedly included a THAAD missile defense system and an AN/TPY-2 radar. BBC said the radar alone is valued at around $485 million. In addition, buildings and other infrastructure at US bases across the region are believed to have suffered another $310 million in damage.

Satellite image analysis also suggests that Iran struck at least three US air bases more than once: Ali Al Salem in Kuwait, Al Udeid in Qatar, and Prince Sultan in Saudi Arabia. According to BBC, the repeated attacks indicate that Iran was deliberately trying to hit key military sites.

At the same time, US military spending has risen sharply. ABC News reported that Pentagon officials told senators in a closed briefing that Washington spent at least $11.3 billion in the first six days of the war. The Washington Post also reported that the Pentagon used $5.6 billion on ammunition in just the first two days of military operations.
