Tehran said Trump used the talks

Iranian officials have told countries trying to mediate with Washington that they do not trust President Donald Trump’s latest calls for negotiations, according to Axios, which cited a source familiar with the matter. Tehran’s message was blunt: Trump has already misled them twice, and they do not want to be deceived again. Reports Tengrinews.kz.
The report says Iranian leaders believe previous diplomatic contacts were followed by sudden military action. During two earlier periods of US-Iran engagement, Trump publicly spoke about reaching an agreement while also backing attacks. Iranian officials now suspect that new proposals for talks could be used to buy time or create political cover before another strike.
Axios noted two examples that have shaped Tehran’s view. In June last year, Israel, with Trump’s support, struck Iran just days before a planned round of nuclear negotiations. More recently, the United States and Israel reportedly reached a preliminary understanding in Geneva to continue dialogue the following week, but a new attack came only two days later.
Because of that history, Iranian officials are treating outside mediation efforts with caution. Their concern is that any fresh diplomatic push may again be followed by military escalation instead of meaningful progress toward a deal.
