Iran rejected the US war plan

Iran has rejected a US proposal aimed at ending the war, according to Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV. A government representative in Tehran said the conflict would end only when Iran decides, not when US President Donald Trump wants it to. AFP reported that the 15-point US plan was delivered to Tehran through Pakistan, citing two Pakistani government officials. Reports Dw.com.

According to reports by The New York Times and Israel’s Channel 12, the proposal included restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, imposing strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program, and easing sanctions in return. It also reportedly called for a one-month ceasefire during which talks would be held in Washington. The plan did not include regime change in Iran. Tehran, however, has denied that any negotiations with the United States are taking place.

At the same time, Britain and France are pushing for talks on reopening maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. AFP, citing a UK Defense Ministry source, said military representatives from around 30 countries could meet before the end of the week to discuss forming a coalition to secure the route. Several countries, including Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands, have already signaled support for measures to protect shipping.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also named French diplomat Jean Arnault as his envoy for Iran. Guterres warned that the war had spiraled out of control and called on the United States and Israel to stop military action, while urging Iran to halt attacks on Gulf states. Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Tehran’s conditions for possible talks include lifting sanctions, preserving its nuclear program and receiving guarantees against a new war.
