Dormitory newborn tragedy: the student's fate has been decided

A horrific incident that occurred in the city of Pavlodar (Kazakhstan) shocked the public. It was revealed that a female student deprived her newborn baby of life after giving birth in a student dormitory. Local media reported this.
It became known that she had been in a close relationship with a young man for more than two years. However, after learning about her pregnancy, he refused to acknowledge the child.
According to court documents, the girl tried to hide her condition from her parents and those around her throughout the entire pregnancy. In October 2025, she gave birth to a fully developed baby girl in the dormitory bathroom.
After childbirth, she was in a state of severe psychological pressure. Fearing that the baby’s crying would reveal her secret, she wrapped the infant in a towel and blocked the airways. As a result, the baby died.
In her testimony, the defendant stated that she was not ready to raise a child alone and was afraid of criticism and pressure from her relatives. During the trial, she fully admitted her guilt.
During the investigation, it was established that the girl’s mother learned about the incident from the group leader. The leader came to the dormitory, saw the girl in serious condition, and called an ambulance. The baby’s body was taken by law enforcement authorities.
The case was considered under a simplified procedure and qualified under Article 100 of the Criminal Code — “killing a newborn child by the mother in a state of mental distress after childbirth.” No aggravating circumstances were found. Mitigating factors included confession of guilt, sincere remorse, no prior convictions, and young age.
By court decision, the girl was found guilty and sentenced to 2 years of restricted freedom. She is also prohibited from changing her place of residence without permission and from visiting entertainment venues.
In addition, during the sentence period, she must perform community service — a total of 100 hours, no more than 4 hours per day.
