According to a decision by Russia's Ministry of Defence and President Vladimir Putin, a ceasefire was announced for 8 and 9 May in honour of Victory in the Second World War. Officials are calling on the Ukrainian side to join this initiative. At the same time, the ministry warned that if Ukraine attempts to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations, Russian forces may launch massive missile strikes on the centre of Kyiv.
