When commuting to and from work every day, which is more practical — financially and in terms of time — using a personal car or taking a taxi? Analysts from the international auto service chain Fit Service decided to investigate this question.
They chose the 2012 Hyundai Solaris with a 1.4-liter engine and automatic transmission for the study. This was not a random choice — such cars are among the most frequent visitors to Fit Service.
Throughout the year, the recorded list of repairs and maintenance included 95 items, costing a total of 142,000 rubles. But that’s not all.
Average expenses for fuel, mandatory auto insurance, and taxes were also included — about 91,000 rubles. So, the total cost of using a personal vehicle for a year came to 233,000 rubles.
Now, let’s calculate the cost of taking taxis. According to the OFD platform, the average taxi fare in Russia at the beginning of 2025 was 624 rubles. If a person uses a taxi for 247 working days, the total cost would be 308,000 rubles.
Conclusion:
-
Taking taxis costs 75,000 rubles more annually;
-
Car owners must always be ready for servicing, fuel, insurance, and other responsibilities;
-
However, they enjoy freedom and flexibility, while taxis offer more comfort and fewer obligations.
